Memorandum

for cooperation among Kanazawa University (faculty of pharmaceutical sciences), Toyama National College of Technology (departments of industrial chemistry and ecomaterials engineering), Japan, and Pacific Oceanological Institute,Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (Vladivostok, Russia)

In accordance with the framework of the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of Soviet Socialist Republics on Cooperation in the Field of Environmental Conservation signed on April 18, 1991 and in accordance with the Soviet-Japanese project for the investigation of atmospheric long-range transport of the pollutants and heat exchange for Global Warming between Asia and Pacific Ocean on June 18, 1991, the MEMORANDUM for cooperation among Kanazawa University (KU), Toyama National College of Technology, Japan and Pacific Oceanological Institute, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Vladivostok, Russia) is signed on the following:

The Kanazawa University (KU), Toyama National College of Technology (TNCT) and Pacific Oceanological Institute (POI) shall conduct joint investigations of atmospheric long - range transport with the purpose to determine sources and intensity of transport for different substances in north-west Pacific.

A science group of Dr. V. Michoukov at Pacific Oceanological Institute shall collect aerosol samples in different regions of the Russian Far East. Samples shall be shared between Russian and Japanese groups.

A science groups of Prof. K. Hayakawa (KU), Prof. D. Miyatani and Dr. M. Tabata (TNCT) shall collect aerosol samples in different regions of Japan. Samples shall be shared between Russian and Japanese groups. The KU and TNCT groups shall provide and install sampling equipment for the POI group.

The KU, TNCT and POI can exchange the equipment and expendables.

After the analyses have been done by Japanese and Russian groups, both sides will discuss the results and may publish articles.

The MEMORANDUM is valid after its subscription. The term of MEMORANDUM is up to October, 2001.
